Where the Turf Meets the Surf!

…at Del Mar.

Just returned from a few days at Del Mar watching the horses run, and taking a break from the 105 degree Las Vegas heat.

The SECRECT to Relationships – People often ask how I ended up with 5,000+ in my rolodex.  The best answer I can give is if you enter a relationship for what you can GET, that is a transaction.  When you enter a relationship focused on what you can GIVE…that is a relationship!

BBQ at the Bitter Root Ranch – The Opportunity Village fundraiser is Saturday September 21 at FRANK MARTIN’S ranch. Tables of ten start at $2,000, or individual tickets for $250 at www. opportunityvillage.org.

Quote of the Month – The two most important days are the day you are born and the day you find out why. (Mark Twain)

Trivia – American workers, by their own admission, waste three hours at work each day.  75% check their Facebook account at work.  Most purchases from online stores are made at work.

Scripture of the Month – Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the LORD, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the LORD Almighty. (Haggai 2:4)

Job Report – We have moved from a position of “talent surplus” to a position of “talent scarcity.”  The top candidates are gainfully employed.  They won’t take a lateral, and demand compensation above market rate. The best candidates have multiple opportunities to choose from – it is no longer a buyer’s market. If you have a tough role to fill, contact The Godfather at mwayman2@cox.net.

BREAKING NEWS – PATRICK CAVANAUGH is the Chief Financial Officer for Walker Digital.  Patrick was formerly the CFO of IGT.  It was an honor and privilege to work with Walker Digital on this executive placement!

BREAKING NEWS – SY ESFAHANI is the Chief Information Officer for MGM Resorts International.  This was a year-long search.  Sy was previously with Fiserv on the East Coast, and CIO of GES Exposition Services in Las Vegas for many years.  It was an honor and privilege to work with MGM Resorts on this executive placement!

Events ——— BBQ at the Bitter Root Ranch – This fundraiser for Opportunity Village is one of my favorite events of the year! Tables of ten start at $2,000. Check it out at www.opportunityvillage.org. Yeehaw!

A Day at the Races – I’ll be hosting 25 of my clients for a day of Racing at Del Mar in August. This year I’m involved with Great Friends Stable, and we’ll have several horses running…where the turf meets the surf.

Record Las Vegas Heat Wave

Have a great July 4 weekend.  We are in the middle of a record Las Vegas heat wave, with temperatures hitting 115 five days in a row.  Ugghh!

Quote of the Month – A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large. (Henry Ford)

Scripture of the Month – Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. (Luke 6:27-28)

Trivia – In May 1995 TONY ROBBINS pays $271,000 to settle charges of providing overly optimistic profit projections to investors in his positive thinking company.

Happy New Year!

And the Oscar Goes to…Although I really enjoyed Silver Linings Playbook (Jennifer Lawrence is my selection for Best Actress), my pick for Best Picture is Argo, the thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Send me your pick for Best Picture of 2012.

Rich Man, Poor Man (aka How to be Successful!) – Successful people believe they create their destiny; unsuccessful people believe “life happens to me.” Successful people take personal responsibility for their actions and circumstances; unsuccessful people blame the government, their boss, their spouse, their kids. Today is the first day of the rest of your life – write a new ending to your movie.

Shania Twain at Caesars Palace – Incredible show! Let’ start with the only weakness – the transitions. There is a leopard scene. Huh? And later, a heavy metal interlude. What? Transitions aside, Shania fans are going to LOVE this show. It’s 100 minutes of pure Shania, and in typical Las Vegas style, the first hour is good and the last 30 minutes are spectacular. Godfather Rating: “A”.

Rock of Ages, the hit Broadway muscial, is the newest show at the Venetian.

Million Dollar Quartet – If you missed it at the Smith Center, you are in luck!  The show takes up residency in the Harrahs Showroom on February 4 with tickets starting at $69.

Bacchanal Buffet with EricZ – My friend EricZ invited me over to Caesars Palace to check out their newly renovated Bacchanal Buffet. You could make a pretty good argument that this is the best buffet ($32.99 for lunch, $45.99 to $50.99 for dinner) in Las Vegas. With 9 serving stations, you need a map to get back to your table!

What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. Albert Pike

Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get. Dale Carnegie

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7   We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrew 13:5

Happy Holidays!

Godfather Holiday Event at The Magical Forest – We had 70 friends, clients and business partners attend my annual holiday party at The Magical Forest (Opportunity Village). It was a family affair, and we have a few pictures from the event posted on the left. THANK YOU all for attending!   Olive Crest Ladies of Distinction Luncheon – Over 200 movers and shakers attended this event honoring Jan Jones, Dawn Gibbons and Victoria Napoles-Leza, with all proceeds going to Olive Crest (www.olivecrest.org – focused on families and foster children). Pictures are on the left.  THANK YOU Steve Schorr and Marie Mortera for hosting, THANK YOU to my 30 friends, clients and partners that attended at my table…and may the Lord bless you richly for your generosity!

Doug Geinzer Holiday Party – Doug (Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition) always has a great holiday event…the Boat Parade at the Lakes. Crowd is always lively, and of course there is always the chance someone will drink too much and fall in the lake. Great job Doug!   Katie Lever Holiday Party – Finally made it to one of Katie’s (General Counsel, SHFL Entertainment) infamous parties, and it lived up to its billing. About 140 movers and shakers and a festive holiday environment. Thank you Katie!   Shania Twain at Caesars Palace – Incredible show! Let’ start with the only weakness – the transitions. There is a leopard scene. Huh? And later, a heavy metal interlude. What? Transitions aside, Shania fans are going to LOVE this show. Opportunity Village was named the official winner of the World Santa Challenge on Thursday, after more than 9,700 Santas participated in the annual 5k run. Saturday’s event was the largest yet for Opportunity Village, which garnered 2,000 more runners than last year’s race to bring home the title for the second year in a row. The Venetian’s 750 runners was the largest competing group, and Circle K Convenience Stores was recognized for raising the most money.

Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower announced the grand opening of McCall’s Heartland Grill, an original concept grill restaurant offering hearty Midwestern-style steaks, fresh coastal seafood and an array of creative comfort food served in a sleek yet cozy “cowboy chic” atmosphere featuring intimate booths, stacked stone and natural woods.  “We took the best of the Midwest and added a touch of the coast,” said Stratosphere Executive Chef Rick Giffen, who created the menu, concept, theme and feel of McCall’s Heartland Grill alongside Stratosphere Vice President of Food & Beverage Matthew Mascali.

Las Vegas Review-Journal (www.lvrj.com) – Although I get half my news from the Internet like everyone else, I still read the LVRJ print edition every morning. Great newspaper and Publisher Bob Brown can be found at pretty much every Las Vegas charity event. Give yourself a subscription for Christmas!

Hot Jobs!- These are my hottest new career opportunities. If you know someone that would be a great fit, please point them my way – any and all referrals gratefully accepted!   Chief Information Security Officer ($200,000, Las Vegas) VP, Marketing ($150,000, Midwest) Director, Finance ($125,000, Las Vegas) Director, Database Marketing (to $150,000, Las Vegas) Manager, Interactive Marketing ($100,000, Las Vegas)

The Christmas Hope – Excellent holiday movie on Hallmark this month, or you can buy it on DVD. Get out the Kleenex!   The Santa Suit – Also on Hallmark.  This movie stars my friend Kevin Sorbo and it’s great family fun.  For some reason, it was not released on DVD yet.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Reason for the Season – There are two reasons I started my Executive Recruiting firm.  First, I wanted to help good people find great new career opportunities.  Second, the business allows me to donate my time and finance resources to charity/community.  And that changes lives for the better.  A portion of each placement from this campaign will be donated to Make-A-Wish, Opportunity Village, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Olive Crest, Goodwill, Salvation Army and Noah’s Animal House @ Shade Tree.

Let It Go! – Great book by T.D. Jakes about forgiveness. I deal with laid off executives daily, and the number one reason most can’t find employment is they are so bitter about being laid off. Let me give you a news flash – your former boss is not obsessing about you, so “let it go” and move on. The other area where bitterness is prevalent is relationships. After a divorce, many people spend the rest of their life being bitter or trying to “get even”. The ex-wife of one major casino executive sent a nasty note to his entire rolodex. Let it go! Always remember this; bitterness is the poison you drink while you wait for the other person to die.

Ladies of Distinction Luncheon (Olive Crest) – Friday November 30 at Noon at Green Valley Ranch Station. Honorees include two of my good friends (Jan Jones, Dawn Gibbons), along with Victoria Napoles of the Latin Chamber. Still have tables and tickets – contact me directly at mwayman2@cox.net.

Anne Aniello (Aniello Insurance) has a full page ad in Las Vegas Woman Magazine this month, and is part of Go For Red (American Heart Association).  She offers insurance for business of all types and sizes – gaming, technology, healthcare, construction.  Reach out to Anne directly at anne.aniello@anielloinsurance.com.

Thanksgiving – This Thanksgiving I’m thankful for my faith, family, friends and the honor of living in the greatest country in the world – America.  Special thanks to these wonderful clients that supported my business and charity work in 2012:

Mystic Mona, Follow Your Dreams….and More!

Just another day in paradise!

Mystic Mona – Attended a Halloween party last weekend and they had “Mystic Mona” telling people’s fortune. Not a big believer in that, however one thing she said really struck me. Mystic Mona stated, “Not everyone is a giver. Focus on the people that want to have a reciprocal relationship. Offer everyone the opportunity, however if they don’t want your friendship or help…move on.” Great advice Mona!

What’s Your Dream?- “Welcome to Hollywood! Everybody has a dream! Hey mister – What’s your dream?” For those that don’t remember, this is the opening line from the movie Pretty Woman. Unfortunately, as we get older and commence the treadmill of life, we often forget our dreams. This morning take 15 minutes to remember your dreams. What did you want to be growing up? What’s on your bucket list? What’s your dream?

Quote of the Month – From the Netflix employee manual, “Doing an adequate job leads to your getting a generous severance package so the company can hire an A-Player in your place.”   Video of the Month – The Faile family from Kershaw, South Carolina, was the Columbia Metropolitan Airport Military Family of the Game, set to be recognized on the field. Their first surprise was a message to them from their dad/husband, Sergeant First Class Scott Faile, playing on the video board, followed by an even bigger surprise. Check out the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUkKhRtk8VU
